Library Location Configuration Options
Library Locations in Pika are setup fairly similarly to the Library System, though there are some special considerations.
Locations configuration options will override what is set at the Library System level in some cases.
Configuration options at the Location level will display for patrons and staff when they are visiting the location’s Pika instance from a known network or a URL specific to that Location.
Go to Pika Configuration and Location from the left sidebar.
Click the Location Id number, or the Edit link to gain access to the Location configuration page.
Code
Code is the codified value from the ILS associated with a library branch. If this branch is a valid pick up location, this code will need to correspond to the code used to set this as the pick up location when placing a hold. This code is also used as the name of the location’s search scope within Pika.
Catalog URL
The Catalog URL controls which website goes to which library. The Catalog URL does not need to be set at the Location level, but when it is set, patrons can access that specific Location’s Pika instance by unique URL. Contact Marmot to implement this for your location, since it requires a unique DNS entry and has some other considerations.
Display Name
The Display Name will display in the browser tab. The value in the display name can also be borrowed from to fulfill other settings.
Show Display Name in Header
The Show Display Name in Header option will use the value in the Display Name field to display in the header when the user accesses the catalog at the branch/location level.
Library
Library has a dropdown list to choose the Library System that the Location belongs to.
In most circumstances, the only option available for the Library is the Library System that staff account used for admin configuration belongs to.
Is Main Branch
The Is Main Branch option designates a single location as the main branch of the parent library system.
If this option is enabled the location marked as the Main Branch will always be the first option in the Locations and Hours list, while all other branches are listed alphabetically by Display Name.
Show in Locations and Hours List
If the Show in Locations And Hours List is checked, the address and hours for the location in question will display in the Library Hours & Location list if enabled at the library system level.
Address and Phone number
The Address field is where you enter your library’s physical address. The address is used to populate the Google Maps widget in the Library Hours and Locations popup. Phone Number is where you enter your library location’s main phone number for display in the Library Hours and Locations popup.
Nearby Locations
Nearby Location 1 & 2 allows you to designate other libraries that are nearby the location you’re configuring. If Nearby Locations are set, patrons will see those nearby locations at the top of the hold pickup options while the other locations that are not set as Nearby Locations will display alphabetically.
Marmot recommends that Nearby Locations should only be locations/branches in your Library System.
Automatic Timeout Lengths
The Automatic Timeout Length (logged in) is the amount of time a patron who is logged in to the catalog will be allowed to go idle before they are automatically logged out. The time is listed in seconds.
The Automatic Timeout Length (logged out) is the amount of time the computer will take to return to the catalog homepage after a user has executed a search or logged out. The time is listed in seconds.
Automatic Timeout Length works in conjunction with OPAC Modes.
Basic Display
Home Link
You can set a Home Link at the location level that will direct out to the provided URL, independent of the Library Home Page as set at the library system level.
If you set the Home Link for your Location, the Library Home Page button will direct your patrons to that address when they’re viewing your location’s page rather than the Home Link set in the Library System.
Additional CSS
Additional CSS is where additional display changes can be applied to the location’s Pika instance.
When applying Additional CSS at the Location level, the CSS will only control the display for that specific location
If you want to make changes to the theme for an individual location please reach out to Marmot staff to ensure the CSS is constructed and applied properly to the parent library theme.
Header Text
The Header Text option allows you to insert customized text that will show up in the header at the location level.
When Header Text is applied at the Location level, it will only display for that specific location rather than the whole Library System.
Below is an example of how the basic Header Text displays.
ILS/Account Integration
The ILS/Account Integration is typically configured by Marmot staff and should not be changed without guidance.
ILS Location ID (Polaris Organization ID or Sierra Scope)
The ILS Location ID is assigned by Innovative and is specific to Innovative ILS products e.g. Sierra or Polaris. The ILS Location ID is used when Pika interacts with the classic OPAC.
The Sierra Scope only needs to be set at the Location level if the specific location has its own Sierra Scope that is different from the parent Library System.
Default P-Type
The Default P-Type drives how Pika displays holdings at the location level when a user is not logged into Pika. Pika will assume they are the P-Type that is listed under the Default P-Type.
Valid Hold Pickup Branch?
The Valid Hold Pickup Branch? option designates a branch or location as a valid option for patrons to choose to pickup their holds.
There are three options :
Valid for all patrons : valid hold pickup location for all patrons of the parent library system or, for some consortia, valid hold pickup location for all patrons in the consortium.
Valid for patrons of this branch only : valid hold pickup location for patrons of the location only. This option is very limited and typically only employed by school districts.
Not valid : Invalid pickup location. Choose this option if you need to temporarily disable a location for pickups or for search scope locations.
Show Hold Button
The Show Hold Button option will display the Place Hold button in search results, at the grouped work level, and at the bib level for the location in question. This option is typically toggled off for specific scenarios e.g. an elementary school scope or a search scope.
Searching
Search settings set at the library location level will override settings at the parent library system level if they are unique to the location.
The Restrict Search By Location option forces only items owned by the location to display in search results at the location level. This setting works in conjunction with the Records Owned and Records Included configuration at the location level.
The Public Lists to Include setting controls which public user lists will show up within the search results at the location level.
The Boost By Location option gives a small boost to holdings owned by the location in search results. The Additional Local Boost Factor can be set to 1 or 2.
Search Box
The Other Libraries or Locations to Repeat In can be configured at the Location level. If additional library systems or locations to repeat in are set at the location level, the individual location will include search options in the
Below is an example of Mesa Valley School District Broadway Elementary location using the Other Libraries or Locations to Repeat In option to repeat searches in other library locations.
The Repeat Search Options (requires Restrict Search By Location to be ON) has a drop down menu for options.
If the Restrict Search by Location option is enabled, a library location can enable the Repeat Search Options to allow searching in either the home library system that the location belongs to or the entire consortium.
The Repeat in Online Collection, Prospector, and WorldCat options will include additional options in the search source at the location level.
Search Facets
All search facet configuration options for the Location are located in this tab.
Toggle Labels
The values entered in the SuperScope Toggle Label, Local Collection Toggle Label and Available Toggle Label fields control the display of the toggle button filters at the top of search results. The text can be customized, but Marmot recommends that the labeling at the location level follow the same vernacular used in the toggle label settings at the library system level.
SuperScope Toggle Label
Should be labeled to best describe the entire collection available in the individual library’s interface. Typically, libraries that are members of a consortium will use this label to indicate holdings at all the libraries in the consortium
Local Collection Toggle Label
Should be labeled to best describe the entire collection owned by the individual location. At the Location level, this will be limited to the individual location.
Libraries can use the short code value {display name} in this field to use the value from the Display Name setting, if appropriate.
Available Toggle Label
Should be labeled to best describe items that are available on shelf for immediate checkout. Some libraries include their electronic materials in the Available toggle, using the Include Online Materials in Available Toggle option.
Available Online Toggle Label
Optional feature that is disabled by default.
If the Available Online toggle is enabled, the Available Online toggle will limit the search to all the eContent that is currently owned by the individual location or included in the Records to Include.
Base Availability Toggle on Local Holdings Only
When enabled, you will only see the local collection for that Location.
Include Online Materials in Available Toggle
If the Include Online Materials in Available Toggle option is disabled, results in the Available Toggle Label will only show physical items that are available now. This option requires the overnight index to update.
Facet Label
The Facet Label is the label that will display for any items owned by the location in the Owning Branch facet.
Include All Library Branches in Facets
If this option is enabled, all locations within the system that the location belongs to will be included in the Owning Branch, Available At, Collection and Detailed Location facets. This option allows libraries the ability to see holdings at all the other locations within the library system when searching.
Additional Locations to Include in Available At Facets
This option enables libraries to include holdings from other specified locations in other library systems or locations in the Available At facet.
Include All Records options
Include All Records In Shelving Facets. This will be turned on the Union Catalogs. Individual libraries are welcome to turn these on. Items will show up in Added in the Last & Shelf Location facets.
Include All Records in Date Added Facets allows you to see the Date Added based on whoever first purchases a title (not just titles you own). For libraries that are unscoped, this allows your patrons to place holds on items from anywhere in the consortium sooner.
Include On Order Records in All Date Added Facet Values this allows patrons to see order records for items that have been purchased, so they can place a hold on the record.
Facets
The Facets configuration options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System level. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
Facets set at the Location level will override any Facets set at the Library System level for that Location. If Facets are not set at the Location level, then the Facets set at the Library System level will be the default.
Copy Facet Settings from Location
Use the Copy Facets Settings from Location to copy the facet settings from another existing location configuration.
The Copy Facet Settings from Location button will return a popup window. Choose the location you want to copy facets from using the Select Location to Copy From drop-down menu. Click the Copy button to commit the changes.
Reset Facets to Default
When you click on the Reset Facets To Default button, all your facets will be removed and a default set will be in their place.
Combined Results
The Combined Results configuration options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System level. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
Combined Results is a search interface that shows search results for multiple sources next to each other. The sources can include Pika, EBSCO Discovery Service, Pika Digital Archive, Prospector, and the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA).
Use Library Settings only applies to the Combined Results search. It will use the settings from the Library System at the location level.
The Enable Combined Results is used to enable the feature.
The Combined Results Label will display as the search source in the search results box.
Checking the Default To Combined Results will make sure the search results default to the Combined Results.
Catalog Enrichment
The Catalog Enrichment options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System level, but more limited. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
Show Standard Reviews : published reviews either from Syndetics or Content Café. These reviews include Publisher's Weekly, Booklist Review, and other sources. Standard reviews display under the heading Published Reviews in the detail record view.
Show GoodReads Reviews : displays user reviews from GoodReads for the given title. GoodReads reviews display under the heading Reviews from GoodReads in the detail record view.
Enable User Lists allows patrons to create a User List.
This option might be disabled at the Location level if a library does not want patrons from a specific branch to create user lists.
Enable User Reviews allows patrons to write reviews on a title.
This option might be disabled at the Location level if a library does not want patrons from a specific branch to submit user reviews.
Full Record Display
The Full Record Display options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System level, but more limited. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
The Show Email This option allows patrons to share a title by email. The email generated includes call number, title and a link to the title. These email option is available in the SHARE section for a given title.
The Show Sharing To External Sites option is grouping Twitter/X, Facebook, and Pinterest. If unchecked, you will not be able to share to any of those three sites.
The Show Staff View option enables the display of the Staff View tab, which contains the record’s underlying MARC or metadata record, along with other detail information about the individual record or grouped work.
The Show QR Code option generates a QR code for the bib that links back to the catalog. QR codes display in the Staff View section of a record or grouped work.
Full Record Options
The Full Record Options options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System level, but more limited. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
The Copy Full Record Display from Location button enables you to copy Full Record Display options from another library location.
The Reset Full Record Display to Default button clears any set Full Record Display options and replaces the table with default options.
Browse Categories
The Browse Categories options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
You can set unique browse categories for specific location that will override the browse categories set at the Library System level. Typically, libraries don’t have unique browse categories set at individual locations.
OverDrive
The Enable Overdrive Collection option should be enabled if the Location has access to OverDrive. If this option is disabled, the location will not include OverDrive titles in search results.
The Include Adult, Teen and Kids Titles options enable subsets of the collection to appear in search results at the Location level.
This functionality is typically used for Locations with specific audiences such as elementary schools or search scopes for certain collections e.g. only YA titles.
The Repeat in Overdrive option allows patrons at the location to repeat a search in your library’s OverDrive site. This displays as a search source option and will direct out to the search results for the search term in the main collection of OverDrive attributed to the parent library system.
The Repeat in Overdrive does not need to be toggled on in order to see the subcollections from the Repeat In Alternate Overdrive Libraries section.
Repeat In Alternate Overdrive Libraries
The Repeat in Alternate Overdrive Libraries options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
The Repeat In Alternate Overdrive Libraries enables patrons to to repeat a search from the catalog in a subcollection of the larger Overdrive collection. Each alternate Overdrive library is designated with the OverDrive library code from the specific collection in the OverDrive URL.
Each subcollection option in the list needs to be separated by pipes ( | ). The subcollections will display in the source dropdown menu in the order they are listed in the Repeat in Alternate Overdrive Libraries field.
Hoopla
The Hoopla Settings options at the Location level are similar to those at the Library System. Setting unique settings at the Location level will override settings at the Library System level for that specific location.
If there are no Hoopla Settings at the Location level, the location will inherit the Hoopla Settings from the parent Library System settings.
The Copy Hoopla Settings from Parent Library button will import the settings from the parent library system into the location’s Hoopla settings. The Copy Hoopla Settings from Location button will import the settings from another location into the location’s Hoopla settings.
The Clear Hoopla Settings button will clear any current settings.
Hours
Library hours for individual branches/locations are set in the Hours table. Use the Add New button to add a new entry to the table.
Choose the appropriate day from the Day of Week dropdown menu and the Opening Hour and Closing Hour from the dropdown menus. The hours are set in 24 hour clock time/military time. The Closed toggle can be enabled on the days your library will be closed during the week or you can simply not add an entry for days your library is closed.
Use the Copy Hours from Location button to import hours settings from another location.
The Select Location to Copy From menu in the popup window will have a list of locations. Find the location hours you want to copy and click the Copy button.
Records Owned and Included
The settings for the Location level Records Owned and Included are detailed in the Library Location Level Records Owned and Included section of the Records Owned and Included documentation.
