OCLC Connexion Download, Logon, and Sierra Export Setup

OCLC Connexion allows you to search for matching records in WorldCat®, edit the records, set your holdings, export your records and print labels, if desired.

Connexion lets you create and edit bibliographic and authority records and then share them with the entire OCLC cooperative, which benefits libraries around the world.

Installation

  • OCLC will provide members with the login needed

  • Install the OCLC Connexion Client

    • Download the Connexion client 3.1 software

       

  • Sign in to OCLC Connexion

    • Go to File and Logon

 

  • You can use the Setup Authorizations to save your username and password.

    • Click on the Setup Authorizations button

 

  • Enter your Authorization #, Password and Library Name in the boxes. Click Apply.

 

  • Once you click Apply, the Close button will appear. Click the Close button.

 

  • Your Authorization and Password will display in the Logon OCLC Connexion box. Click OK.

 

  • The Message of the Day box will appear with a support link and phone number. Click Close or Print. The Help button links to the manual.

 

  • Click on Cataloging, Search, and WorldCat to start searching.

 

  • To setup your export into Sierra, go to Tools>Options.

 

  • Click on the Export tab. The File (Prompt for filename) is used to export the files to your desktop which you load through Data Exchange.

  • Another way to export files is by using Gateway export. This downloads records one at a time from Connexion. To create the Gateway export, click on Create and OCLC Gateway Export. Click OK.

 

  • Enter the Host Name of sierra.marmot.org, and the Port of 5500. The Delay should be set to the number 10. Click OK.

 

  • Next, the Export Destination Name box will appear. It will display the export name. Click OK.

     

  • Next click the Record Characteristics button

     

  • Make sure your Character Set is UTF-8 Unicode

     

  • Click Apply and Close
