Indexing Rules Table Description
The system builds each index based on the Indexing Rules Table. For a subfield to get included in an index in must meet each of the characteristics: Field Group, MARC Field, Rule and Subfields.
Field Group
To be included in this index the field needs to be in this field group.
MARC Field
To be included in this index the field needs to have this MARC tag and indicators.
This is a five character field. The first three characters are the MARC tag and the last two are the indicator. If the fourth and fifth characters are blank, then any indicators will work.
This field uses regular expressions
. is any single character
[ 12] is a single character that could be blank, or 1 or 2.
Rule and Subfields
KEEP: Creates a single index entry containing all of the MARC field's specified subfields, in the order in which they appear. Repeated subfields are kept in the same index entry as they appear in the field. Repeated MARC fields would get separate entries.
EACH: Creates a separate index entry for each copy of the subfield(s) within the single MARC field. Repeated subfields get separate entries.
REM: Creates a single index entry containing all of the MARC field's subfields, in the order in which they appear, EXCEPT for the specified subfields.
N/A: These fields have no subfields. Each complete field becomes a single index entry.
