Bibliographic Record Fixed Length Field Definitions (Sierra)
The following information describes the fixed-length fields found in bibliographic records.
Bibliographic Record Fields for MLN1 Libraries
When choosing the Field for Create Lists, numbers are associated with the Fixed-Length Fields.

025 | SKIP | The number of characters should be skipped before sorting on the TITLE field (including the space).
If specified in the default template, SKIP may be prompted when new orders are entered. This enables a title to be joined with the first article in place while ensuring that the article will be ignored during indexing.
The system uses the value in the second indicator position in the 245 field for records transmitted from a bibliographic utility. | Numeric | The system automatically supplies the SKIP. code for English language articles (a, an, the). You must supply the SKIP code for foreign language articles. See Initial Articles: Coordinating Cataloging Practices with User Searches for more information.

026 | LOCATION | Shelving location or branch.
For multiple locations, see the variable-length field LOCATIONS.
The same set of codes is used for the LOCATION field recorded in the bibliographic, item, order, and check-in records.
NOTE: If you are using the system for cataloging, the use of LOCATION codes is determined by the MLN1 cataloging policy.
Your organization defines the codes, which are stored in one file for use in bibliographic, order, item, check-in, patron, and course records. (In patron records, the codes are used in the HOME LIBR field.) | Lowercase alphabetic or numeric | Marmot | The Maximum number of codes is 10,000.

031 | SPEC’L USE | Your organization determines the name and purpose of this field, its codes, and the codes' definitions, except the code 'c,' which is used by the system to suppress the display of the order record in the classic catalog.
SPEC’L USE can also be used to mark items for later deletion.

Note: Pink is an alert color for “invalid” fields. In a template it indicates a default value is missing. Fixed-length fields should always have a default value (e.g. ‘-‘ ) and should not be left blank. White mean that the fields are editable and have a valid content.
Sierra DNA for Record Properties (MLN1 & MLN2)
The following fixed-length fields are found using Sierra DNA. Each row of bib_record_property contains primary descriptive data from a specific bib record.
