This documentation describes the process and logic when placing holds in Pika for linked accounts
Table of Contents
Basic Process
Linked accounts in the same library system
When a patron has linked accounts within the same library system, the catalog will prompt the patron to place holds for the appropriate patron.
In the provided example the patron has two accounts from Garfield County linked.
Find the title to place the hold on. Click the Place Hold button.
The patron will see the Place Hold popup dialog, where they choose their pickup location and the linked account they wish to place the hold for from the dropdown menus. Then they will click Submit Hold Request.
If the hold is successful, they will return a success message which they can close or click on the View My Holds button to direct to their Titles on Hold page.
In the Titles on Hold page, the patron can see which account the hold belongs to in the On Hold For section.
Multiple linked accounts between different library systems
When a patron has two or more linked accounts between multiple library systems, the catalog will apply special logic to determine which account to place a hold for.
In the provided example, the patron has one account at Basalt that is linked with two accounts at Garfield County. Â
Find the title to place the hold. Click the Place Hold button.
A patron with multiple linked accounts at other libraries will see a choice of libraries connected to their managed/linked accounts from the dropdown menu. The patron will choose the location where the hold should be placed from the I want to pick this up at dropdown menu.Â
In this example, the Basalt patron is linked to two Garfield County accounts.
If the library with multiple linked accounts is chosen as the pickup location, the patron will see the option Place hold for the chosen location using account drop down menu.Â
The menu will display the choice of accounts associated with the pickup location to place a hold for. The patron would choose the account to place the hold for and click the Submit Hold Request button.
If the hold is successful, they will return a success message which they can close or click on the View My Holds button to direct to their Titles on Hold page.
In the Titles on Hold page, the patron can see which account the hold belongs to in the On Hold For section.
