Preferred Templates (Record Templates)

Staff members responsible for creating patron or item records can build a custom list of templates to be used when they create records. When you build a list of Preferred Templates, these templates are not saved to your local PC but are accessible to you wherever you log in to Sierra. The Preferred Templates list is limited to 150 preferred templates for all record types per login.

To Create or Maintain a List of Preferred Templates

Open and log in to Sierra

Go to Admin|Settings.

Choose the Record Templates tab.

In the Record Templates window, choose a record type from the Record Type drop-down menu. The default will be Bibliographic.

Note: All Marmot Libraries will see every template created by all Marmot Members.  These templates are listed in the Other Templates box.  This is why the naming conventions (begin the template name using your library’s 2 or 3 letter site code) are important to help find the templates for your library.

You can view a template by clicking the template name in the Preferred Templates or Other Templates list, and then clicking View. The template displays in a record template window. If you are assigned permission to edit templates, the template appears in editable form. If you are not assigned permission to edit templates, the template appears in a read-only form.  Also, the New and Delete buttons will only be active, if you have those permissions.
