Table Explanation

The Hold Pickup Locations table allows Marmot to group locations from the Branches table into hold pickup locations, and to define a label to display when those locations are used as hold pickup locations. The Hold Pickup Locations table functions in the following ways:

  • As a staff member you can choose any pickup location. The system scopes to these pickup locations automatically.

  • When you request an item in the WebPAC/Classic Catalog or the Pika Catalog and the system is configured to allow patrons to choose a hold pickup location, the system displays the available pickup locations from this table.

  • When you view holds in the WebPAC/Classic Catalog or the Pika Catalog or in Express lane, or print paging slips, hold slips, and hold notices, the system substitutes the label from the Display Name element for the label from the Branches table associated with the selected hold pickup location. For example, if the branch name for the location “main” is normally “Main Reference”, the hold pickup location name might be “Main Library Holdshelf”.

  • When you generate a title or volume-level page, the system consults the Paging Priority element to determine which hold pickup locations to page and in what order.

    • Our Priority Paging is done through Load Balancing. Libraries with greater capacity will fill holds first.

    • Load Balancing was engineered to minimize the courier cost. Marmot has Agency Holds turned on.

  • When you fill a hold and the Agency Holds product has been set up, the system consults the Agency element to give priority to holds at pickup locations within the same agency.

  • When you view an item or view an entry in the Manage Holds report, and the item is on the holdshelf, the system substitutes the label from the Display Name element for the label from the Branches table associated with the hold pickup location. If the branch name for the location “main” is normally “Main Reference”, the hold pickup location name might be “Main Library Holdshelf”.

  • Under the following conditions, Sierra displays the branch name instead of the Display Name from this table.

    • The Limit pickup locations to those in the Hold Pickup Locations table option is not selected.

    • The pickup location chosen for the hold is a branch location.

    • The branch location has no corresponding hold pickup location in this table or is associated with multiple locations in this table.

Functionality Information

The maximum number of entries allowed in this table is 500 entries. The table reads from top to bottom, therefore, if a location is associated with two pickup location entries, the entry that contains the location you want to page should appear above the location you do not want to page.

Note: since Marmot uses Title Priority Paging, every time an entry is added to the table, every other entry in the table must be assigned a Paging Priority value for the new pickup location. Pickup locations receive a paging priority between 1and 999. The lower the number assigned, the higher the location’s paging priority.

Data Elements

Data Element

Description

Data Element

Description

Display Name

The name that appears in the WebPAC/Classic Catalog or the Pika Catalog for the hold pickup location. The location name can only be a maximum of 31 characters.

List of Locations

The location codes from the Branches table for which the system should substitute the Display Name label when the location is used as a hold pickup location.

Agency

The agency to which the hold pickup location belongs. The system compares this value to the AGENCY fixed-length field of item records when filling agency holds. Possible values are agencies defined in the Agency table. A value of 0 prevents the system from considering agency when filling holds, even if 0 is associated with a value in the Agency table. This element will only display if the consortium has acquired Agency Holds.
