A brief description of Marmot’s governance committees

Overview of Marmot Committees

Marmot is a member-driven consortium. Committees are the means by which library staff reach consensus on how Marmot’s services are offered or configured. If you are interested in getting involved in a Marmot committee, please notify your supervisor and contact us at marmothelp@marmot.org.

Access Services Committee (ASC)

Reviews and recommends resource sharing, circulation, and ILL policies and procedures at the consortium level.

Digital Archive Committee

Reviews and recommends hardware and software requirements, develops procedures for capturing, storing, and cataloging digital items, and advises developers on enhancements for the Marmot Pika discovery layer.

Discovery Committee 

Informs and guides development of the Marmot Pika discovery layer.

E-Content Committee

Coordinates the purchase of ebooks, downloadable audiobooks, and other e-resources.

IT Maintenance Interest Group

Reviews workstation hardware, software, and network requirements, evaluates new technologies, and makes recommendations to Marmot staff.

Marmot Academic Committee (MAC)

empowers and gives voice to academic library members, develops consensus on academic library needs, explores the possibility of group purchasing, and fosters better communication between libraries and between the libraries and Marmot.  

Privacy, Security, and Accessibility Committee (PSA)

Reviews and recommends policies, system configurations, and procedures for the consortium, as well as setting best practices for member libraries on issues relating to the complex interconnections between privacy, security, and accessibility.

Union Catalog Committee (UCC)

Recommends policies and formalizes procedures to maintain a high-quality union catalog.

Member Resource Guide Task Force

A limited-duration Task Force focused on consolidating “minimum participation requirements” for different Marmot services, suggesting the development of missing minimum requirements; identifying topics for an online resources guide containing “how to” information enabling library staff to meet minimum participation requirements for Marmot’s different services, coordinating the development of onboarding and orientation materials for new Marmot libraries or new staff at Marmot libraries, and planning a method to ensure that review of the resources guide is kept up-to-date.
