Pika Library Locations Configuration Training Outline

Library location are typically branches of the library - there must be a location attributed to the library system, even if the library is a single site. Locations may also represent different collections (e.g. children’s collection) if the library system would like to offer that as a separate search option. Locations should be created for

  • Subdomain

    • Typically not used

    • If you’d like to access a branch specifically, this is used

      • Has to be configured by Marmot, requires DNS entries

  • Code

    • Library’s code in the ILS

  • Sub Location Code

    • Doesn’t do anything for Sierra libraries

  • Display name

    • What displays in the header

    • Depending on theming for library system, typically toggled off

    • If IP addresses are assigned, this can be affected

  • Library

    • Set to parent library system.

    • Main branch toggle only matter for branched systems

      • This only serves to bring the ‘main’ branch to the top of the branch listing when looking at hours and locations

  • Address

    • Must be set to return google map thumbnail

  • Phone Number

  • Nearby Locations

    • Set to two nearest pick-up branches geographically

    • With branched systems, makes sense to set two closest branches within the systems

  • Automatic Timeouts

    • Requires either IP address or OPAC URL to work correctly

  • Basic Display

    • Can set special homelink if branch has a different homepage than the system

    • Anything that isn’t populated will follow setting for overarching system by default

  • ILS Account Integration

    • Valid Hold Pickup

  • Searching

    • Similar important options that MUST be set at both this level and library system level

    • Search facets

      • SuperScope: usually the same as library system setting

      • Local Collection Toggle Label : should be Branch name. May vary from local collection label in library system

      • Available Toggle Label: on shelf for checkout at branch - gives further specificity to branch (if base availability toggle is ON)

      • Available online: same considerations.

      • Base availability toggle on local branch : usually best to turn on for branched systems when users are coming in on in-house IPs

    • Facet Label : as holdings display in left hand facets - can usually be a shorter name to save space, if desired.

  • Catalog Enrichment

  • Full Record Display

  • Browse Categories

    • Browse categories set at the location level

  • If not set, browse categories from the library system will show up on default

  • Overdrive

    • Can change included collections at the branch level

  • Hoopla

    • Can change at the branch level

  • Hours

  • Records owned

    • Records owned by that branch.

    • If a single branch library the location will match the system

  • Records to include

    • Include ‘library records to include’ dupes what is in the library systems setting.

    • Usually this is all you need to set. It’s not typical that a branch won’t display the same

      • Children’s catalogs are a good example of those that don’t

      • This should likely be set for older Marmot libraries since this was a newer option that was introduced after many Marmot libraries were set up initially in Pika
