This training is designed to give library staff a basic understanding of the Create Lists module in Sierra, which uses command-based querying or filtering to retrieve data from the Sierra database. Create List review files can be created for patron records, item records, bibliographic records, order records, check-in records, check-in and card records, authority records, course reserve records, and invoice records.
At the end of the training, you should have a better understanding of where record information is stored and counted; the review file naming conventions; the function of each button in Create Lists; how to start a review file search; how to export a review file search; how to use the "Use Existing Search” feature; and how to use the JSON feature to save a search strategy.

Fixed-length Fields - may be limited by the code's length, the code's definition, the length of the code name, and the maximum number of codes. Examples of data in fixed-length fields are itypes, icodes, location, ptypes, and pcodes.

Review File —The Create Lists function enables you to create a list of records called a review file, also known as a bucket.
Variable-length Fields - contain data that is usually alphanumeric. Examples of data in variable-length fields are free-text notes, addresses, and barcodes.
