HB21-1110: Accessibility Law for Colorado State and Local Government

The legal counsel for the Governor’s Office of IT has confirmed that city/county and special district public libraries do NOT have to submit an accessibility plan by July 1, 2022. 

It has also been confirmed that the Colorado Departments of Education and Higher Education (CDE and CDHE) are not executive branch state agencies, which also exempts school libraries and academic libraries from the requirement to submit an accessibility plan this July.  

However, all local government and education entities are required to be in full compliance with the accessibility law by July 1, 2024.  

Prior to this law, Marmot already committed to making Pika fully compliant with WCAG 2.1 web accessibility standards, adopting this as an initiative in the 2020-25 Operational Plan.  We will keep everyone updated as various elements in Pika are brought into compliance over the next two years.
