Information for the libraries that use the New York Times (NYT) through Marmot.

Your IP addresses provide access to users who are at your library. The user initiates access by registering his/her email address and creating a password. These credentials will allow them to read the digital content for as long as they are within the library.
Use http://www.nytimes.com/register for On-site use only. This provides unlimited access while in the library.
A proxy URL (see section 2 in Off-Site Access) can be used for both On-Site and Off-site access but will consume a Group Pass.
Your library chooses one of the two options available, Code URL or Group Pass via Proxy.
Group pass via Proxy allows 60 passes per day for either 24 or 72 hours. That is because 60 passes renew themselves after the hours of usage (24 or 72) are exhausted
Code URL is done for an allotted number of redeems on our side at the inception. Say, it allows a max of 10K redeems per year (not passes)- once all 10,000 have been used, there is no off-site access left on this URL.
** The NYT people suggest (but do not mandate) that your library builds a kind of a simple “wall” that will authenticate the users to make sure only active cardholders are accessing. |
The New York Times creates a unique URL that will be provided to your library to host on your page. The user navigates to your library’s website from anywhere and clicks on the link you are hosting.
Once there, the user creates an account by registering their email address and setting up a password. This password is not connected to the PIN/password used in the Sierra system.
At that point, users may redeem one of the code redemptions that have been allocated for your library’s use.
Each redemption will afford a patron an “X” number of hours of unlimited access to http://NYTimes.com + NY Times smartphone app (choices are 24 or 72 hours).
Once the X hours are gone, the user will redeem the code again for the next “X” hours by entering their email address and password. This password is not connected to the PIN/password used in the Sierra system.
Once the end-user activates the code, the hours of access are tied to their email address (not their browser session).
Your patrons will be able to go to http://NYTimes.com from any internet-ready device, and 'log in' with the email address they registered.
